ADAAM engaged fisheries leadership on sector priorities for drowning prevention and safer work around water.

ADAAM consulted Paul Okware, Principal Fisheries Inspector at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, on 3 September 2026. The discussion focused on a fisheries-sector approach to drowning prevention and its relationship to national coordination.

Priorities discussed included safety equipment, capacity building, laws and regulations, early warning systems and alignment with the occupational safety elements of the WHO PROTECT technical package. ADAAM documented the engagement and shared the report with GHAI.

These priorities provide a basis for further technical and policy dialogue. A September follow-up supported continued MAAIF engagement while keeping the National Drowning Prevention Programme Coordination Office informed.
